ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - - Hotel Kate, Rockford's first boutique hotel will stand in the heart of Rockford. In a space once occupied by the Y-W-C-A. "Today was really about the naming reveal and the kickoff to the construction phase of this project," said Peter Provenzano, President of Joseph James Partners. The hotel's name also has its roots in the Forest City's history. Kate O'Connor helped lead the Women's Suffrage Movement in Rockford. "We have a long history in The City of Rockford of having remarkable women who have made tremendous differences in the business community, and socially thought our city,” said Mayor Tom McNamara. Kate is really one of the leaders of that effort.” "She built community. That's our intention to foster community though the construction of this hotel,” said Mark Robinson, Vice President of Joseph James Partner. Joseph James Partners designed Hotel Kate to be a gathering place for community members- complete with meeting space, and a restaurant. "Wellness activities that you would expect from a Y-W-C-A will be present. The basketball courts, the pool, fitness facilities, will all be fee based and accessible to the community,” said Provenzano. "I think one of the beautiful things that we are doing is re-purposing and imagining spaces, but we are not forgetting where we came from,” said McNamara.
