Indoor market opening could be delayed

Rockford's future indoor market might open a few weeks later than expected.
The indoor market developers say it is still waiting for approval from state and federal agencies on several historical structural items. However, construction is still going on. The indoor market will be located in a historic district, so it must meet requirements set by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency and the National Park Service.
"The historic agencies ask for a lot of information about the specifications of what you're doing and they just want to make sure everything's historically appropriate," Rock River Development Partnership Executive Director Cathy McDermott said.
Organizers hope to have the indoor market open by its target date, Nov. 1, and by December at the latest.
