ROCKFORD — Rockford City Market will conclude its season on Friday after again posting a record number of patrons. Nearly 98,500 people have attended the weekly market staged at the intersection of Water and Market streets in downtown Rockford. That's a 31 percent increase over last year's previous record-breaking attendance. Overall attendance is expected to crack 100,000 on Friday, and Rockford City Market will hand out a prize to visitor number 100,000. The market has grown each year since its June 2010 debut. "The attendance increase shows the market is the Friday experience that many people are looking for — a place to meet friends, buy quality local goods and listen to live music in a great downtown setting," said Cathy McDermott of Rock River Development Partnership, which organizes the market. "We've had many first-time visitors this year and generally great feedback on the new pavilion and layout." The market runs from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday. Aside from its regular mix of food, drink and locally made goods, this week features a fall booth decorating contest, IceHogs kids activities and an exhibition wheelchair basketball game between the Rockford Chariots and Rockford Ravens rugby team, among other activities.
